Chip Factory

Version 7 now available!
Microcontrollers are low-cost single-chip 'computers' that are ideal controllers for many industrial and educational projects. The microcontroller is initially programmed with a dedicated control program, and whenever it is connected to a power supply it then automatically 'runs' this program. In industry the microcontroller program is usually created using 'C' or 'assembler' language, but these languages are usually too complicated for educational projects.

Are you using the new very LOW-COST 8 pin PIC12F629 microcontroller? Do you need an upgrade to version 7.7?…

The Chip Factory system has been designed to provide an easy to learn 'entry level' step into the world of microcontrollers. The Chip Factory is a stand-alone unit that can be programmed without the use of a computer. A simple program, made up of simple 'BASIC' style commands, is entered into the Chip Factory memory using the on-board keypad, and then programmed into a microcontroller (which is placed in a socket on the programmer).

Features:

The Chip Factory programs 8, 18 and 28 pin microcontrollers. Once programming is complete the microcontroller can be transferred to the project board. The microcontrollers used are constructed from FLASH memory, which means they can be instantly reprogrammed up to 10000 times.

  • On-board ZIF socket for programming microcontrollers.
  • LCD and on-board switches for stand-alone use without computer.
  • Uses safe low-voltage 9V DC supply.
  • Optional serial connection to host computer (cable supplied).
  • Printer connection for direct printing without a computer.
  • Easy to use BASIC programming language - Commands
  • Now supports new 8 pin PICs e.g. the PIC12F629

The Chip Factory Pro supports the following microcontrollers:

PIC12F629 - 4 outputs, 2 inputs
PIC16F627 - 8 outputs, 4 inputs, 2 analogue inputs, 1 sound output
PIC16F84A - 8 outputs, 4 inputs, 1 sound output
PIC16F819 - 8 outputs, 2 inputs, 2 analogue inputs, 1 sound output
PIC16F872 - 8 outputs, 8 inputs, 4 analogue inputs

The optional Windows software allows the programs to be written using a computer before downloading to the PIC microcontroller. An added benefit of this software is that the programs can be simulated and tested on-screen before downloading. The software also supports low-cost OTP microcontrollers such as the 16C621A.
