| Chip Factory Wins Award! | |
The Chip Factory system, developed by Revolution Education Ltd and promoted by the Technology Enhancement Programme, has been awarded the prestigeous 'Millennium Products' award by the Design Council.
This innovative product allows younger students to program microcontrollers using a simple BASIC language. One advantage of the system is that it is self-contained (it does not require a computer for programming) so it can be used in traditional school workshops.

Since 1997 Revolution have been working with the Higher Still Development Unit and SCCC to produce an new 'Systems and Control' teaching system for the new Technological Studies Courses.
For this course Revolution have developed a new teaching system, based around the popular Basic Stamp Controller system. This involved developing 6 new 'plug-together' modular teaching boards and revised Windows and Acorn software.
At standard and higher grade software using a 'BASIC' style language was developed - for Advanced Higher an innovative software application that teaches assembler code through the disassembly of BASIC programs was developed.
In addition to the hardware and software development, Revolution also produced extensive teaching notes, consisting of course notes, practical assignments and teachers handbook.

| The Big Idea | |
The Big Idea is a permanent £13 million technology millennium exhibition, located on the site of Alfred Nobel's dynamite factory in Ardeer, Scotland. The exhibition is a giant inventor's workshop, with a large number of hands-on exhibits explaining the principle themes of technology and invention.
In early 1998 the designers of the exhibition approached Revolution to provide suggested content for the exhibition, relating to the Science and Technology curricular of England and Scotland. Following this initial approach Revolution education division became heavily involved with developing the concepts of the interactive exhibits, and assisted with the design and manufacture of the exhibits over the next two years.
Revolution also provided the animation briefs and text content for the 80 touchscreen computers which explain the concepts of the exhibit to the visitor through a series of on-screen animations. By working closely with the interactive designers, the multimedia programmers and external publishing houses, Revolution were able to co-ordinate the development of a highly extensive interactive help system.
As well as the educational content, Revolution developed a commercial visitor tracking system for the whole exhibition, based around the Dallas Semiconductor electronic iButton. Revolution also commissioned and installed the exhibition IT system, installing equipment with a total value of around £0.5 million.
