Making PCBs

We actively encourage students to make their own PCBs for projects based around the PICAXE microcontrollers. We strongly recommend you include the PICAXE download circuit (3.5mm stereo socket (part CON039) and two resistors) on your PCB so that you can re-program the PICAXE chip in position on the PCB.

Sample PCB layouts, with component lists, for all sizes of PICAXE chip are provided in the generic PCB artwork datasheet

Educational PCB software support files:

If you do not use these educational PCB packages, you can trace the designs from the generic datasheet into your PCB package.

If you do not have the facilities, time or expertise to make your own PCBs a number of ready-made project work boards are available.

real-PCB

real-PCB from www.crocodile-clips.com

PICAXE circuit layouts can be created manually within real-PCB.
Sample PCB layouts are also available for editing or 'cut & pasting'.
PICAXE simulation circuits from Crocodile Technology can also be automatically imported and auto-routed.

(No update required as PICAXE parts are automatically included within the real-PCB 'microcontrollers' library. Example PICAXE PCB designs are also provided via the Help>Example Designs menu.)

PCB Wizard

PCB Wizard

PICAXE circuit layouts can be created manually within PCB Wizard.
Sample PCB layouts are also available for editing or 'cut & pasting'.
PICAXE microcontroller circuits cannot currently be simulated within Livewire and so cannot be automatically imported into PCB Wizard.
